In the long term, this was the better timeline. Geno is actually relevant with his apparition in Tetris 99, the Nintendo Switch pic and of course, the remake.

@@victorford5047The point of his supposed inclusion in Smash was to give Geno and his Mario-Square Universe enough relevance for Nintendo to consider making a remake or sequel to Mario RPG, IT'S JUST that Nintendo skipped the whole "Put him in Smash and let's see the rest" part to "I'm making a remake of your game"

I only got to experience Super Mario RPG when it came back out on the Wii. I even remember waiting for its release. It did not disappoint, and is probably one of my favorite RPGs ever made. Really cool that we got a remake out of it.

I still can't believe so many people actually want Geno in Smash. Like, this goes all the way back to the early 2000s when people were making flash cartoons on Newgrounds. I'm convinced all the support from Geno in Smash stems from his appearance in one specific sprite parody animation called Smash Kingdom, a collection of comedy sketches. One of these sketches was literally just Geno talking to the camera about how he deserved to be in Smash. That was it. I naturally assumed this was an ironic bit, like "Haha, this one-off character from an old SNES game that didn't even release in PAL regions actually thinks he's awesome and deserves to be in Smash even though he's just some dorky-looking puppet." But no, I guess they were serious all along, because now everyone seriously wants Geno in Smash Bros? Clue me in here, guys. I know you like Mario RPG, I'm sure it's a genuine classic and I'm happy you're getting a remake and all. But seriously, is Geno so important a pick for you that his Mii costume wasn't good enough? Genuinely, what am I missing here?

Look, I love Mario RPG, and I do think Geno is a fun character with his mix of clumsiness and awesomeness... But. I was thinking about the idea of him getting in Smash finally and have realized some things: - People love to hate on projectile characters like my boy Richter, and Geno with his rocket fists and hand cannons would ABSOLUTELY be a primarily projectile based character - People love to hate on any series being "overrepresented" (ugh) in Smash Bros and Mario is one of the most repped series of all - He's only had two appearances that weren't tiny cameos and one was a remake of the other - We've already been through Banjo and Kazooie being added, one of the most highly requested additions to the roster, and loads of people hate them. (RIP my pick for the Smash Ballot, so sad that people hate them so much) So while I'd personally find it fun for him to get in, keep in mind the fact that there's a lot of different factors at play here

Next Smash may get reboot so Mario series might just change the rep candidates. Geno's issue is still that he isn't as famous as all other main cast including Birdo and Pauline. If he really wants to become a new Mario series mascot, he needs to be in all the new games from now on.

I like Geno but he technically hasn't come back in canon. What people criticized before was that he never appeared in any recent game on NIntendo Switch, even the top selling ones like Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario Wonder.
